An unexpectedly hard shot by Vili Alatalo in the 3rd minute of play forced Kärpät's goalkeeper Tony Salonen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vili Alatalo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tony Salonen having to interfere. Jani Kallio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Saul Puhakainen having to interfere. In the 12th minute, Arvi Heino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Seppo Jatkola received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Saul Puhakainen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kärpät's Seppo Jatkola got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vilppu Puumala got free with Saul Puhakainen in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Vili Alatalo struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Tony Salonen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kanto IFK. Seppo Jatkola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Saul Puhakainen having to interfere. 30 minutes into the game, Kanto IFK's Anssi Puutio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tony Salonen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 33 minutes into the match, Kärpät's goal looked a bit too open when Vili Alatalo came free, but Tony Salonen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 37th minute, Vilppu Puumala ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Saul Puhakainen was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. 40 minutes into the match, Kanto IFK's goalkeeper Saul Puhakainen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vilppu Puumala. Saul Puhakainen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Seppo Jatkola's shot from short distance in the 43rd minute. After 45 minutes, Aatos Masalin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kanto IFK and the Kärpät players grew even worse after the yellow card. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Vili Alatalo to strike the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vili Alatalo in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tony Salonen saved Kärpät from getting behind. Kärpät's Tony Salonen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vili Alatalo in the 61st minute of play. Vili Alatalo struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Tony Salonen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kanto IFK. Anssi Puutio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tony Salonen having to interfere. Saul Puhakainen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vilppu Puumala, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Saul Puhakainen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vilppu Puumala, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Seppo Jatkola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 81st minute, Vilppu Puumala made a precise shot to the right of Saul Puhakainen. Kanto IFK's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. In the 87th minute, Seppo Jatkola got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Seppo Jatkola came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Kärpät fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Seppo Jatkola couldn't finish the play. Anssi Puutio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Tony Salonen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tony Salonen made a fantastic save in the 98th minute, when Anssi Puutio sent off a good shot on target. Seppo Jatkola took the ball and in the 100 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Saul Puhakainen. Saul Puhakainen dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Kanto IFK's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
