The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Asko Seikola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleksis Korkeakoski having to interfere. If Ari Juujärvi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Hepola IFK's Timo Ahonen got control of the ball when Ari Juujärvi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Hepola IFK's Timo Ahonen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daavid Koponen in the 11th minute of play. Asko Seikola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleksis Korkeakoski having to interfere. Daavid Koponen blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Timo Ahonen having to make a save. Ari Juujärvi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Timo Ahonen having to interfere. In the 28th match minute, Hepola IFK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Keimo Kärki to maneuver through the defense. Aleksis Korkeakoski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Asko Seikola, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 32 minutes into the match, Virgin's goal looked a bit too open when Saku Sairanen came free, but Aleksis Korkeakoski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute the ball was on its way in behind Virgin's goalkeeper Aleksis Korkeakoski, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Virgin's Aleksis Korkeakoski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Asko Seikola in the 36th minute of play. After having played for 38 minutes, Asko Seikola managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hepola IFK's supporters crossed their fingers, but Asko Seikola was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Asko Seikola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleksis Korkeakoski having to interfere. Saku Sairanen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hepola IFK's Asko Seikola got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Daavid Koponen made the kick off in the second half. Aleksis Korkeakoski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Asko Seikola, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. In the 81st minute, Kristian Vihtilä got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hepola IFK's Saku Sairanen got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hepola IFK's Timo Ahonen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ari Juujärvi in the 89th minute of play. If Asko Seikola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
