The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute Iikka Laitila shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leif Selänne saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uljas Janssons short, quick shot in the 10thth minute got Risto Suutarinen to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Risto Suutarinen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kaapro Wallenius in the 16th minute of the match. In the 19th minute, Uljas Jansson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Risto Suutarinen was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. When Kaapro Wallenius came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Eiskola fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kaapro Wallenius couldn't finish the play. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Nator's goalkeeper Risto Suutarinen, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 28th minute Jani Takala suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Iivari Alin fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Nator's protests and gave Iivari Alin a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Eiskola booed when FC Nator was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Iivari Alin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eiskola's Uljas Jansson got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 36 minutes, Tomi Jokinen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Eiskola and the FC Nator players grew even worse after the yellow card. Tomi Jokinen hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. 40 minutes into the match, Eiskola's goal looked a bit too open when Hannu Kukkamäki came free, but Leif Selänne reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Uljas Jansson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Risto Suutarinen having to interfere. After a rather tough play, FC Nator's Jarno Hautaniemi got a free kick in the 44th minute. After having played for 48 minutes, Hannu Kukkamäki managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Nator's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hannu Kukkamäki was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Hannu Kukkamäki stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hannu Kukkamäki in the 53rd minute of play forced Eiskola's goalkeeper Leif Selänne to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leif Selänne didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when FC Nator's Iikka Laitila shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-1 in the ordered_time% minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Uljas Jansson couldn't finish the play.
