After 5 played minutes HK Scan got a freekick which was hit by Ilmari Saravo. Leif Nylund took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 6th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Atso Normio. HK Scan's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 17th minute, Raino Vuori got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Raino Vuori's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rainer Palonen was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. Rainer Palonen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raino Vuori in the 27th minute of the match. Veli Kivi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Roope Lätti received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Atso Normio came out and tried to block the shot, but Roope Lätti slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 32nd minute. Rainer Palonen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Iiro Heinola in the 37th minute of play. 39 minutes into the game, HK Scan's Raino Vuori nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rainer Palonen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. With a little luck, HK Scan's Atso Normio got control of the ball when Veli Kivi tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 46th minute, Westbay FF's Kalervo Litmanen dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Iiro Heinola was the one to do the kick off. Roope Lätti's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Atso Normio read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. After having played for 57 minutes, Veli Kivi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Westbay FF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Veli Kivi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in HK Scan's zone, Veli Kivi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Atso Normio came out of the goal and Veli Kivi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Veli Kivi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Westbay FF getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Leif Nylund hit a great ball. In the 70th minute, Westbay FF's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Iiro Heinola fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After having played for 73 minutes, Raino Vuori managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. HK Scan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Raino Vuori was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 80th match minute, HK Scan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ilmari Saravo to maneuver through the defense. When Iiro Heinola came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the HK Scan fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Iiro Heinola couldn't finish the play. Raino Vuori recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kalervo Litmanen kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match.
