The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Oxford United F.C. booed when Leppikorpi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valtteri Huikari didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hannu Timmonen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oiva Hautamäki having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hannu Timmonen in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Oiva Hautamäki prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 14 played minutes Oxford United F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Lasse Österlund. In the 16th minute, one of Oxford United F.C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Oxford United F.C.. The goalkeeper, Iikka Räsänen, was totally fooled by Leppikorpi's Sulo Sainomaa, who 18 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. 23 minutes into the game, Petri Korkeamäki recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Iikka Räsänen. Petri Korkeamäki showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Petri Korkeamäki's late challenge caught a Oxford United F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Petri Korkeamäki helped the player get up and apologised. After 27 played minutes Leppikorpi got a freekick which was hit by Petri Korkeamäki. In the 33rd match minute, Oxford United F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Esko Takala to maneuver through the defense. 37 minutes into the game, Oxford United F.C.'s Esko Takala nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Oiva Hautamäki made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Esko Takala received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Oiva Hautamäki tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Petri Korkeamäki sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind Leppikorpi's goalkeeper Oiva Hautamäki, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Esko Takala struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Oiva Hautamäki didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oxford United F.C.. The attack was good, but when Petri Korkeamäki in the 83rd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Petri Korkeamäki recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Esko Takala sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Leppikorpi fans cheered their team off the field, for while Oxford United F.C. had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
