But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kaarlo Kampman couldn't finish the play. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Esko Niskala showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Oiva Viljamaa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Esko Niskala read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Esko Rahkonen in the 23rd minute of play forced Virojoki's goalkeeper Esko Niskala to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Kaarlo Kampman's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Esko Niskala was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. During the 84th minute of the match Panu Koivuporras completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Panu Koivuporras a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Ensio Uusipaavalniemi didn't quite understand what happened when in the 98 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. Rattosjärvi's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
