Aipytos Karameros was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Pavlos Haritos. The referee felt a red card was in order, 7 minutes into the game, when Pavlos Haritos put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 6th minute of the game. One of Southampton F.C.:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Heraklion BC:s goal. Haimon Kapataidakis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Heraklion BC's Apostolis Petropoulos got a free kick in the 13th minute. Dimitris Gravari struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Aipytos Karameros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Southampton F.C.. When Haimon Kapataidakis fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Southampton F.C.'s protests and gave Haimon Kapataidakis a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Southampton F.C. getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Haimon Kapataidakis hit a great ball. The supporters of Southampton F.C. booed when Heraklion BC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Apostolis Petropoulos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dimitris Gravari took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 20th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Aipytos Karameros. Heraklion BC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Helios Laganas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aiolos Karahalios in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ilias Bourikas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Apostolis Petropoulos's late challenge caught a Southampton F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Apostolis Petropoulos helped the player get up and apologised. After 30 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Heraklion BC! After having played for 35 minutes, Aiolos Karahalios managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Heraklion BC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aiolos Karahalios was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 37th play minutes Aiolos Karahalios shot 1-2, a short shot which went by Ilias Bourikas and just under the crossbar into goal. Aiolos Karahalios sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Aiolos Karahalios had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Bedih Orkut came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Southampton F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bedih Orkut couldn't finish the play. The Southampton F.C. players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Heraklion BC were winning 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Aiolos Karahalios made a kick off. Helios Laganas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ilias Bourikas having to interfere. With a little luck, Southampton F.C.'s Ilias Bourikas got control of the ball when Aiolos Karahalios tried to sneak it across the goal line. Helios Laganas was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 58th minute. Heraklion BC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. If Helios Laganas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aiolos Karahalios received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Ilias Bourikas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 66thth minute of the game Aiolos Karahalios who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Southampton F.C.'s Ilias Bourikas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 67 played minutes Southampton F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Dimitris Gravari. Ilias Bourikas made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Aiolos Karahalios sent off a good shot on target. With a little luck, Southampton F.C.'s Ilias Bourikas got control of the ball when Aiolos Karahalios tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dinekis Petimezas kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Bedih Orkut fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aipytos Karameros having to interfere. Aiolos Karahalios could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 76th minute of the match, but Ilias Bourikas made a huge save. In the 77th minute, Charis Andreoulakis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dimosthenis Bilias hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Aipytos Karameros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hyllos Ioannidis, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dinekis Petimezas in the 80th minute of play forced Southampton F.C.'s goalkeeper Ilias Bourikas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Southampton F.C.'s Haimon Kapataidakis got a free kick in the 81st minute. After 83 played minutes Southampton F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Cristinel Ronaldo. A hard shot 84 in the game by Aiolos Karahalios from a close distance when the talented Ilias Bourikas managed to make a qualified save. Southampton F.C.'s players were relieved. Aiolos Karahalios in the 90thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ilias Bourikas, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ilias Bourikas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Aiolos Karahalios in the 91st minute. Aiolos Karahalios's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Ilias Bourikas firmly grabbed it by the left post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Aiolos Karahalios in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ilias Bourikas saved Southampton F.C. from getting behind. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Heraklion BC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
