Michalzi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Akademik Sofia the free kick. In the 16th match minute, Michalzi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denko Trenchev to maneuver through the defense. Todor Lambrev made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Boyko Ahtardzhiev in the 19th minute of play. Toni Barokov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Todor Lambrev read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. If Boyko Sekulov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Toni Barokov ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Akademik Sofia's zone, Viden Elitzin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Todor Lambrev came out of the goal and Viden Elitzin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Toni Barokov recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Akademik Sofia booed when Michalzi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boyko Sekulov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Michalzi's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lilcho Belinski was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 54th minute, Toni Barokov ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Todor Lambrev was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Michalzi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toni Barokov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Michalzi's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
