Spectators: 7500 (Terracing: 5625, Seating: 1725, VIP seats: 150) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Hugh Hollingsworth took the kick off in the first half of the match. Ian Haines's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Charlie Hird read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. After having played for 9 minutes, Russell Bentley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fakenham's supporters crossed their fingers, but Russell Bentley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Fakenham booed when Herne Bay FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eddy Mortimer didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 14th minute of the match Ralf Gibbons shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kristopher Griffiths showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 19th minute Hugh Hollingsworth shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristopher Griffiths saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute Russell Bentley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristopher Griffiths saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Russell Bentley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kristopher Griffiths took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Russell Bentley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Ian Haines had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Piers Carsley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charlie Hird having to interfere. After having played for 31 minutes, Ian Haines managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kristopher Griffiths tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kristopher Griffiths stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hugh Hollingsworth's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. After having played for 44 minutes, Harry Devine managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Herne Bay FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Harry Devine was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Charlie Hird showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Piers Carsley, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. Ian Haines could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Charlie Hird made a huge save. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Harry Devine took the ball and in the 54 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Charlie Hird. Charlie Hird dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Charlie Hird came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by Herne Bay FC's Ian Haines. But to his dismay, Ian Haines quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. After having played for 65 minutes, Hugh Hollingsworth managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fakenham's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hugh Hollingsworth was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hugh Hollingsworth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Kristopher Griffiths tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eric Sullivan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The nice shot from Russell Bentley in the 81stth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Kristopher Griffiths had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. If Ian Haines had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute the ball was on its way in behind Herne Bay FC's goalkeeper Kristopher Griffiths, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Herne Bay FC's Nick Barr got a free kick in the 91st minute. Hugh Hollingsworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Herne Bay FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Fakenham had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
