An unexpectedly hard shot by Warren Newland in the 9th minute of play forced Maldon's goalkeeper Duncan Haigh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Swanmore booed when Maldon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giles Reed didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Reuben Shaw came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Maldon fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reuben Shaw couldn't finish the play. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Simon Elwick stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
