Loyd Langsford kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. In the 4th match minute, Stalybridge United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Callum Black to maneuver through the defense. Trevor Featherstone sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 7 minutes into the match, Stalybridge United's goalkeeper Damion Lonsdale had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trevor Featherstone. Callum Black received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Dennis Baker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tod Jennings sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tod Jennings struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Damion Lonsdale didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leigh. After a rather tough play, Stalybridge United's Deon Porter got a free kick in the 14th minute. 15 minutes into the match, Stalybridge United's goalkeeper Damion Lonsdale had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trevor Featherstone. Dennis Baker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deon Porter in the 18th minute of the match. 19 minutes into the match, Leigh's goal looked a bit too open when Callum Black came free, but Dennis Baker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Stalybridge United's goalkeeper Damion Lonsdale had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trevor Featherstone. In the 25th match minute, Stalybridge United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Deon Porter to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tod Jennings in the 28th minute of play forced Stalybridge United's goalkeeper Damion Lonsdale to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Damion Lonsdale showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Jennings, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gus Westerby in the 32nd minute of play forced Leigh's goalkeeper Dennis Baker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 33rd minute of the match, Micheal Hartley tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Damion Lonsdale saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 34 minutes into the game, Kasey Cheeseman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Stalybridge United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Leigh the free kick. Kasey Cheeseman hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Gus Westerby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dennis Baker having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Leigh's Brad Deaconsfield slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Damion Lonsdale. That made the score 1-0 after 44 minutes of play. Micheal Hartley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tod Jennings was the one to do the kick off. If Tod Jennings had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 54th match minute, Stalybridge United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Deon Porter to maneuver through the defense. Leigh's Tod Jennings got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Stalybridge United's Damion Lonsdale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brad Deaconsfield in the 57th minute of play. Brad Deaconsfield took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Damion Lonsdale. Damion Lonsdale dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Damion Lonsdale stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tod Jennings's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. Sidney Freeman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dennis Baker having to interfere. Tod Jennings sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Damion Lonsdale made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Micheal Hartley in the 74th minute of play. Stalybridge United's Damion Lonsdale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trevor Featherstone in the 75th minute of play. Damion Lonsdale showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Jennings, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Stalybridge United's Damion Lonsdale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brad Deaconsfield in the 78th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Albert Stockley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 88 minutes, Brad Deaconsfield managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Leigh's supporters crossed their fingers, but Brad Deaconsfield was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Stalybridge United's Albert Stockley got a free kick in the 96th minute. When the referee ended the match the Leigh players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
