Spectators: 7500 (Terracing: 5625, Seating: 1725, VIP seats: 150) Nicholas Mead started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Cody Hawkins hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Micheal Childs's late challenge caught a Leigh's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Micheal Childs helped the player get up and apologised. In the 9th match minute, Morden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Micheal Childs to maneuver through the defense. Jimmy Lydiate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Jennings, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Tod Jennings received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Jimmy Lydiate tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jimmy Lydiate showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Trevor Featherstone in the 20th minute of the match. Jimmy Lydiate made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tod Jennings in the 24th minute of play. Jimmy Lydiate stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tod Jennings's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tod Jennings in the 31st minute of play forced Morden's goalkeeper Jimmy Lydiate to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Micheal Childs kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. 38 minutes into the match, Trevor Featherstone notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Morden's Jimmy Lydiate. Jimmy Lydiate was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Cody Hawkins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half Leigh were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tod Jennings made a kick off. If Trevor Featherstone had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jimmy Lydiate stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tod Jennings's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. If Charlie Pointon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trevor Featherstone recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Charlie Pointon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. Jimmy Lydiate made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Tod Jennings sent off a good shot on target. 74 minutes into the match, Trevor Featherstone had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jimmy Lydiate. Morden's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Trevor Featherstone was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Morden's Jimmy Lydiate played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tod Jennings in the 85th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Morden's Cody Hawkins got a free kick in the 85th minute. Jimmy Lydiate was a little too slow when Tod Jennings got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 87th minute. The score was now 0-3. After having played for 91 minutes, Tod Jennings managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Leigh's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tod Jennings was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jimmy Lydiate took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tod Jennings, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Trevor Featherstone received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Jimmy Lydiate tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Morden fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Leigh were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
