Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Warren Newland took the kick off in the first half of the match. Danny Beerman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tod Gale read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 2nd minute of play. Geoff Sullivan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 6th minute Geoff Sullivan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bob Watson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Geoff Sullivan struck a weak shot in the 8th minute. Bob Watson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chelmsford. After having played for 9 minutes, Warren Newland managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Swanmore's supporters crossed their fingers, but Warren Newland was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Geoff Sullivan was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 12th minute. Chelmsford's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. With an all-out effort, Chelmsford's Bob Watson threw himself towards the right post 14 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Geoff Sullivan, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 19th minute Geoff Sullivan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bob Watson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 20 played minutes Swanmore got a freekick which was hit by Phillip Butcher. Tod Gale showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Phillip Butcher in the 26th minute of the match. Tod Gale took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Danny Beerman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 31 played minutes Chelmsford got a freekick which was hit by Lance Pearson. In the 32nd minute, Warren Newland hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tod Gale showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Warren Newland in the 35th minute of the match. After having played for 36 minutes, Geoff Sullivan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Geoff Sullivan to make the kick off. If Danny Beerman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 55 minutes into the match, Chelmsford's goalkeeper Tod Gale had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Danny Beerman. Geoff Sullivan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Bob Watson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Danny Beerman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tod Gale having to interfere. Danny Beerman made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 80thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Tod Gale would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. In the 85th minute of the match Joseph Harland sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bob Watson skillfully saved the ball. In the 89th minute, Swanmore's Warren Newland ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Tod Gale. Tod Gale yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Danny Beerman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Chelmsford supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Swanmore's performance. The match ended with a win for Swanmore.
