Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Hugh Hollingsworth started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. After a rather tough play, Fakenham's Hugh Hollingsworth got a free kick in the 4th minute. Charlie Hird didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Warren Newland went, in the 8th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Bob Watson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hugh Hollingsworth in the 12th minute of the match. If Warren Newland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 18 minutes into the game, Phillip Butcher was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Swanmore's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fakenham the free kick. After 18 played minutes Swanmore got a freekick which was hit by Phillip Butcher. After 19 played minutes Swanmore got a freekick which was hit by Danny Beerman. Shaun Batty took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Charlie Hird. Fakenham's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Crispin Lobb kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. In the 31st minute Warren Newland shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charlie Hird saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Warren Newland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charlie Hird having to interfere. In the 43rdth minute of the game Danny Beerman who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fakenham's Charlie Hird was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Danny Beerman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Russell Bentley took the ball and in the 55 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bob Watson. Bob Watson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After some careless play in the Fakenham defense, Danny Beerman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Charlie Hird. The Fakenham fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Charlie Hird should have stopped the shot. After 62 minutes, Warren Newland mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Swanmore and the Fakenham players grew even worse after the yellow card. Charlie Hird took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Warren Newland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Fakenham's defense didn't have a chance, in the 68th minute, when Warren Newland scored to the left of an out of position Charlie Hird, making the score, 1-3. After a rather tough play, Fakenham's Gus Winstanley got a free kick in the 90th minute. Sid Osborn hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Danny Beerman struck a weak shot in the 97th minute. Charlie Hird didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Swanmore. When the match was over Swanmore could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fakenham throughout the match.
