After 5 played minutes Herne Bay FC got a freekick which was hit by Harry Devine. In the 7th minute, Leigh's Tod Jennings dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. The long shot by Loyd Langsford in the 11th minute really tested Kristopher Griffiths's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Kristopher Griffiths stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tod Jennings's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. 16 minutes into the match, Herne Bay FC's goal looked a bit too open when Tod Jennings came free, but Kristopher Griffiths reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ian Haines in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dennis Baker saved Leigh from getting behind. With a little luck, Herne Bay FC's Kristopher Griffiths got control of the ball when Trevor Featherstone tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Leigh's zone, Ian Haines stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dennis Baker came out of the goal and Ian Haines tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Trevor Featherstone received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Kristopher Griffiths tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tod Jennings received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tod Jennings to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Trevor Featherstone in the 57th minute of play forced Herne Bay FC's goalkeeper Kristopher Griffiths to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Leigh's Tod Jennings in the 62nd minute got a chance for a shot 62nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Herne Bay FC's goalie prevented a goal. Kristopher Griffiths showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trevor Featherstone, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. After a rather tough play, Herne Bay FC's Eddy Mortimer got a free kick in the 79th minute. 80 minutes into the match, Leigh's Tod Jennings sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kristopher Griffiths narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leigh's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
