The supporters of Maldon booed when Morden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Micheal Childs didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Simon Elwick's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jimmy Lydiate was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. Jimmy Lydiate stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Simon Elwick's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. Reuben Shaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Jimmy Lydiate tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 13 minutes into the game, Julian Millman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Morden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maldon the free kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charlie Pointon in the 21st minute of play forced Maldon's goalkeeper Duncan Haigh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nicholas Mead sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Reuben Shaw had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Maldon's Simon Elwick in the 28th minute got a chance for a shot 28th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Morden's goalie prevented a goal. In the 30th match minute, Maldon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Simon Elwick to maneuver through the defense. Nicholas Mead recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Simon Elwick's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jimmy Lydiate read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Simon Elwick's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jimmy Lydiate was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Jimmy Lydiate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simon Elwick, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Reuben Shaw sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Duncan Haigh came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Morden's Charlie Pointon. But to his dismay, Charlie Pointon quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Reuben Shaw sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 68 minutes of play, Maldon's Simon Elwick made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jimmy Lydiate was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Simon Elwick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 76 minutes, Cody Hawkins mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Morden and the Maldon players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 76th minute, Cody Hawkins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The corner ended in Joel Blueman almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Morden's Jimmy Lydiate did a great save. After 86 minutes, Trevor Newlyn mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Morden and the Maldon players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some careless play in the Morden defense, Simon Elwick kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jimmy Lydiate. The Morden fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jimmy Lydiate should have stopped the shot. Simon Elwick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 98 minutes, Simon Elwick managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maldon's supporters crossed their fingers, but Simon Elwick was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
