Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Clive Bowler got the match started through his kick off. Jonny Beattie kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. In the 12th minute, Jonny Beattie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nigel Hodgson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Bob Watson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Beckton's zone, Danny Beerman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Les Gibbs came out of the goal and Danny Beerman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Les Gibbs was out of position in the 17 minute of play, and Danny Beerman capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Danny Beerman really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Bob Watson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clive Bowler in the 21st minute of play. Nigel Hodgson struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Bob Watson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Beckton. Les Gibbs made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Danny Beerman sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that Clive Bowler's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bob Watson was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. Bob Watson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Clive Bowler's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. When Damion Bradbury fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Swanmore's protests and gave Damion Bradbury a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Swanmore getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Damion Bradbury hit a great ball. Bob Watson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Johnnie Bennett, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. In the 41st minute, Dean Bullock had to leave the field with a concussion. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Stevie Milligan during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 42nd minute, Stevie Milligan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 45 played minutes Swanmore got a freekick which was hit by Phillip Butcher.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Warren Newland was the one to do the kick off. Clive Bowler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Bob Watson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Nigel Hodgson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Les Gibbs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Warren Newland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Clive Bowler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Bob Watson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sid Osborn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Les Gibbs having to interfere. When Clive Bowler came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Beckton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clive Bowler couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Clive Bowler got free with Bob Watson in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Beckton made a substitution. Wayne Radcliffe replaced Johnnie Bennett. 89 minutes into the game, Nigel Hodgson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Bob Watson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Phillip Butcher blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Les Gibbs having to make a save. When Swanmore's Danny Beerman, in the 94th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Swanmore. Beckton played a much better game than Swanmore and deserved their victory. The Swanmore players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
