Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Kurt Townson kicked off to start the match. Ivan Blackley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Victor Rooney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 39th minute Ivan Blackley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Victor Rooney saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Kurt Townson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 44th minute Tosh Cartwright shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jermaine Crowther saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ivan Blackley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Hucknall booed when West Rainton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Damian Wilkinson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gordon Forrest to make the kick off. Victor Rooney showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivan Blackley, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Tosh Cartwright could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Jermaine Crowther made a huge save. The Hucknall fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. West Rainton's Tosh Cartwright got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
