The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute Walter Atkinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bob Aldridge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bob Aldridge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Walter Atkinson in the 11th minute of the match. A collision led to Sheerness FC getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Karl Thorne hit a great ball. In the 12th minute of the match Jeremy Potter shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bob Aldridge showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 13 minutes, Theo Spacey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sheerness FC and the Maradona FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Alfred Broadhurst sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfred Broadhurst in the 22nd minute of play forced Maradona FC's goalkeeper Jonny Hicks to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Sheerness FC's goal looked a bit too open when Samuel Bennett came free, but Bob Aldridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joshua Faith sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 33 minutes into the match, Maradona FC's goalkeeper Jonny Hicks had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Karl Argent. Stefan Moyse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bob Aldridge having to interfere. 0-2 became the score in the 36th minute when Ron Tipton elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Vincent Haines charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vincent Haines the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Maradona FC booed when Sheerness FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rod Joy didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Karl Argent to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Rowan Watson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Alfred Broadhurst came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Sheerness FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfred Broadhurst couldn't finish the play. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Karl Argent fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonny Hicks having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Matt McCormick managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sheerness FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Matt McCormick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonny Hicks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Walter Atkinson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 86th match minute, Maradona FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlton Croft to maneuver through the defense. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 94th minute of the game. One of Maradona FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sheerness FC:s goal. In the 97th minute there was a penalty for Sheerness FC. Karl Argent stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Jonny Hicks. 1-2. The Maradona FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Maradona FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
