Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Nguyễn Dinh started the match with the kick off. Trần Thi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Nguyễn Hong made a huge save. Manchester United's Nguyễn Hong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Dinh in the 4th minute of play. After 8 minutes, Nguyễn Nhật Minh mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dien Bien Phu and the Manchester United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Nguyễn Nhật Minh kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Nguyễn Tan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Đỗ Duc tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Tan might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Đỗ Duc. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Tan ran back to his position shaking his head. Nguyễn Phu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Đỗ Duc tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Đinh Duong fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester United's protests and gave Đinh Duong a yellow card for diving instead. After 25 played minutes Manchester United got a freekick which was hit by Đinh Duong. Nguyễn Nhật Minh got his second yellow card in the match during the 27th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 28th minute Nguyễn Phu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Đỗ Duc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Trần Thi in the 31st minute. In the 34th minute, Trần Minh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Manchester United's Nguyễn Hong got control of the ball when Trần Thi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Phan Van Quyen kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Dien Bien Phu's Nguyễn Dinh got a free kick in the 39th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nguyễn Tan in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Đỗ Duc prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 42 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Dinh was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dien Bien Phu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Manchester United the free kick. The supporters of Manchester United booed when Dien Bien Phu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Dinh didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Phu struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Đỗ Duc didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester United. Đỗ Duc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Minh in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Nguyễn Tan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đỗ Duc having to interfere. In the 57th match minute, Dien Bien Phu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Võ Minh to maneuver through the defense. Manchester United's Nguyễn Tan got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Tan got free with Đỗ Duc in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Trần Thi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Nguyễn Phu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Manchester United's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Phu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Đỗ Duc breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 96 minutes into the match, Dien Bien Phu's Nguyễn Dinh sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Hong narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Manchester United's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
