With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hồ Thuyet prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nguyễn Hung's late challenge caught a Vinh Long's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Hung helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Yen Bai getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Nguyễn Hung hit a great ball. If Trương Hoai had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 26 minutes into the match, Vinh Long's goalkeeper Đào Quang Thanh had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trương Hoai. Vinh Long's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nguyễn Pham ran over to the corner to take the kick. Bùi Hoang tried in the game's 50th match minute to clear up in front of his own goal but it went so bad that he put the ball into the goal to the left of an unhappy Đào Quang Thanh. An annoying self made goal, 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Trần Tho made a kick off. Trương Hoai recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Nguyễn Xuan came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Vinh Long fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Xuan couldn't finish the play. In the 62nd minute, Trần Tho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Trần Tho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vinh Long's supporters rose to their feet, but Trần Tho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
