Nguyễn Ho who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 9thth minute tested the skills of Hoàng Teo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Nguyễn Ho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 15thth minute of the game Nghiêm Duy who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Phu Yen's Hoàng Teo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 16th minute, Nguyễn Khoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nguyễn Minh stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Trần Hong Minh's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. If Trần Hong Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chung Phuc hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Phu Yen's Nguyễn Khoi got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Nguyễn Minh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hoàng Liem in the 43rd minute of play. Nguyễn Minh showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hoàng Liem in the 44th minute of the match. Hoàng Liem sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
Nguyễn Minh made an important save on a dangerous shot by Trần Hong Minh in the 52nd minute. Hoàng Teo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nghiêm Duy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Nguyễn Khoi was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 55 minutes had been played. A collision led to Phu Yen getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Nguyễn Khoi hit a great ball. When Nguyễn Chi fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Phu Yen's protests and gave Nguyễn Chi a yellow card for diving instead. Hoàng Teo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nghiêm Duy, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nghiêm Duy in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hoàng Teo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 68th minute, Nguyễn Ho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ben Tre fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. 75 minutes into the match, Phu Yen's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Ho came free, but Hoàng Teo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hoàng Nhật Minh charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hoàng Nhật Minh the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Phu Yen's Hoàng Teo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nghiêm Duy in the 80th minute of play. 83 minutes into the match, Ben Tre's goalkeeper Nguyễn Minh had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trần Hong Minh. Trần Hong Minh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Minh having to interfere. If Trần Hong Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 88 minutes of play, Phu Yen's Trần Hong Minh made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nguyễn Minh was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ben Tre's Nguyễn Minh proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Ben Tre from getting a goal against them. Nguyễn Chi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Phu Yen players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
