Nguyễn Duc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Dương Minh Phượng tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 12 minutes into the game, Lương Xuan recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Dương Minh Phượng. Lương Xuan showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. When the match clock showed 27 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Nguyễn Dinh sped through Bac Lieu's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lê Nguyet. With 31 minutes on the clock, Lê Thanh commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 32nd minute, the referee gave Bac Lieu a penalty. Nguyễn Van Tai Em looked confident and blasted the ball into goal by the left post, totally unstoppable for Dương Minh Phượng. If Nguyễn Dinh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 37 played minutes Bac Lieu got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Duong. After 40 played minutes, Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Loc shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lê Nguyet came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Thua Thien-Hue reached it. Thua Thien-Hue's Dương Minh Phượng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lương Xuan in the 47th minute of play. A collision led to Bac Lieu getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng hit a great ball. 49 minutes into the match, Bac Lieu's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Loc came free, but Lê Nguyet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nguyễn Dinh to make the kick off. Dương Minh Phượng showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Tho, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Nguyễn Dinh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lê Nguyet having to interfere. Nguyễn Dinh struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Lê Nguyet didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Thua Thien-Hue. After 65 minutes of play, Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Dinh made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lê Nguyet was left in no man's land by his defense there! Dương Minh Phượng took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trần Tho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 71st minute Nguyễn Duc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dương Minh Phượng saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Dinh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Bac Lieu's Nguyễn Tấn Dũng pulled a muscle in his back after 77 minutes and couldn't finish the game. 77 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Dinh was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player.
