The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Duc cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Văn Bien was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Nguyễn Duc might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Văn Bien. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Duc ran back to his position shaking his head. Văn Bien showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lương Xuan in the 11th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Hung during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Bac Lieu's Nguyễn Hung got a free kick in the 13th minute. After 14 minutes, Nguyễn Huy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Phu Tho and the Bac Lieu players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Phu Tho getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Nguyễn Huy hit a great ball. Đào Thuy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Minh recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Đào Thuy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Lê Nguyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Phu Tho's Đào Thuy nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lê Nguyet made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. 28 minutes into the match, Bac Lieu's Nguyễn Duc sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Văn Bien narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 30 played minutes Phu Tho got a freekick which was hit by Vũ Thanh. 31 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Duc notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Phu Tho's Văn Bien. Văn Bien was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Đào Thuy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Hung hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Đào Thuy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 43rd minute, Nguyễn Duc got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 45 minutes, Nguyễn Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Phu Tho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Minh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bac Lieu's Lê Nguyet proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Bac Lieu from getting a goal against them. Nguyễn Duc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Văn Bien having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lương Xuan to make the kick off. In the 59th match minute, Bac Lieu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Hung to maneuver through the defense. Đào Thuy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Lê Nguyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 61st minute, Trần Tho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Trần Tho during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 63 played minutes Bac Lieu got a freekick which was hit by Trần Tho. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Minh in the 66th minute of play forced Bac Lieu's goalkeeper Lê Nguyet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Nguyễn Duc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Duc got free with Văn Bien in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Lương Xuan came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Bac Lieu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lương Xuan couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Phu Tho's zone, Lương Xuan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Văn Bien came out of the goal and Lương Xuan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Duc got free with Văn Bien in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Bac Lieu walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
