When Phạm Dung came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Kontum fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phạm Dung couldn't finish the play. 14 minutes into the match, Trần Hung had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nguyễn Cong Vinh. Kontum's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Trần Hung was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Phạm Dung received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Đinh Teo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Đinh Teo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dương Chung in the 19th minute of the match. Trần Hung might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Cong Vinh. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Trần Hung ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 27th minute, Trần Hung got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Phạm Dung had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Duc received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nguyễn Cong Vinh came out and tried to block the shot, but Trần Duc slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 35th minute. Đinh Teo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dương Chung in the 38th minute of play. If Trần Duc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Trần Duc stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dương Chung fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đinh Teo having to interfere. Cai Be's Đinh Teo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phạm Dung in the 54th minute of play. Trần Duc scored 3-0 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nguyễn Cong Vinh, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dương Chung sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 60 minutes, Lê Phuong mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cai Be and the Kontum players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Cai Be getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Lê Phuong hit a great ball. After 64 played minutes Kontum got a freekick which was hit by Võ Dong. Dương Chung sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Trần Hung had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 79th minute, Trần Hung left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cai Be fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. The supporters of Cai Be booed when Kontum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Huỳnh Pham didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Trần Hung had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 87 minutes into the match, Cai Be's Trần Duc sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Cong Vinh narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 89 played minutes Cai Be got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Tuyet. Kontum were awarded a corner in the 91th minute after Cai Be's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Nguyễn Dong took the corner. The corner led Kontum's Nguyễn Dong to fire away a dangerous shot which Đinh Teo despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phạm Dung in the 94th minute of play forced Cai Be's goalkeeper Đinh Teo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
