Hồ Huynh Duc hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. If Nguyễn Nhật Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 9th match minute, Lao Cai was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tạ Binh to maneuver through the defense. If Nguyễn Binh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 17 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Nhật Minh cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Nguyễn Thuyet was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd rose to their feet as Lao Cai's Huỳnh Viet slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Đặng Quang Thanh. That made the score 3-2 after 30 minutes of play. After 33 played minutes Hanoi FC got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Nhật Minh. If Nguyễn Nhật Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Nguyễn Nhật Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hanoi FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Nhật Minh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Thuyet breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Lao Cai defense, Nguyễn Binh kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nguyễn Thuyet. The Lao Cai fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nguyễn Thuyet should have stopped the shot. Nguyễn Chung recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The wind increased when Nguyễn Nhật Minh made the kick off in the second half. Đặng Quang Thanh showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hồ Huynh Duc in the 51st minute of the match. Nguyễn Nhật Minh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Nguyễn Binh kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. The attack was good, but when Nguyễn Nhật Minh in the 64th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 73rd minute, Huỳnh Viet made a precise shot to the right of Đặng Quang Thanh. Hanoi FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-3. Đặng Quang Thanh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Chung, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nguyễn Nhật Minh might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Thuyet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Nhật Minh ran back to his position shaking his head. Hồ Huynh Duc hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. In the 94th minute, Lý Van Tai Em hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Hanoi FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
