An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Hieu Ngan in the 10th minute of play forced Kontum's goalkeeper Nguyễn Viet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 11th minute Nguyễn Thi Ngoc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but La Tuan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kontum's Nguyễn Viet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Hieu Ngan in the 17th minute of play. La Tuan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Thi Ngoc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. La Tuan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Thi Ngoc in the 20th minute of play. After 27 played minutes Kontum got a freekick which was hit by Phan Dung. Phan Dung hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Kontum's zone, Nguyễn Hieu Ngan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Viet came out of the goal and Nguyễn Hieu Ngan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lê Than sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute, Nguyễn Anh Hung got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ha Tay's La Tuan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Ha Tay from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nguyễn Thi Ngoc made a kick off. Nguyễn Hieu Ngan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Viet having to interfere. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lê Than got free with Nguyễn Viet in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Đỗ Lan during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Đỗ Lan kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match.
