Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Ninh Binh's Đặng Phong started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute, Lao Cai's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lê Viet fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 9 minutes into the match, Ninh Binh's goal looked a bit too open when Huỳnh Viet came free, but Lê Ho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Đặng Phong came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Ninh Binh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Đặng Phong couldn't finish the play. Lê Viet who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 18thth minute tested the skills of Nguyễn Thuyet when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Đặng Phong's late challenge caught a Lao Cai's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Đặng Phong helped the player get up and apologised. After a defensive mix-up in Lao Cai's zone, Nguyễn Lan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Thuyet came out of the goal and Nguyễn Lan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Đặng Phong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thuyet having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lê Viet in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nguyễn Thuyet prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Lê Viet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 37th minute, Đặng Phong fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Nguyễn Thuyet, passed just outside the right post. After 38 minutes, Trần Viet mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lao Cai and the Ninh Binh players grew even worse after the yellow card. Lê Ho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Huỳnh Viet in the 43rd minute of play. After 44 played minutes Lao Cai got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Quang Thanh. After recieving a nice pass, Ninh Binh's Nguyễn Hung tried to score from far away in the 45th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Nguyễn Thuyet made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Lê Viet sent off a good shot on target. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
Đặng Phong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thuyet having to interfere. Lê Viet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Trần Nam kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. 61 minutes into the match, Lao Cai's Nguyễn Chung sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lê Ho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Huỳnh Viet fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lê Ho having to interfere. In the 67th minute Đặng Phong shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Thuyet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 69th minute, Ninh Binh's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Nguyễn Chung fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Nguyễn Thuyet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lê Viet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Đặng Phong struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. Nguyễn Thuyet didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ninh Binh. Nguyễn Thuyet stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Đặng Phong's shot from short distance in the 77th minute. Lê Viet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 81st minute, Nguyễn Nhật Minh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Đặng Phong took the ball and in the 85 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nguyễn Thuyet. Nguyễn Thuyet dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. 93 minutes into the match, Đặng Phong had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nguyễn Thuyet. Lao Cai's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Đặng Phong was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Ninh Binh fans cheered their team off the field, for while Lao Cai had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
