Long Xuyên's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lê Thi during the 7th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nguyễn Tu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Binh having to interfere. Nguyễn Phong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Tuan in the 23rd minute of play. 27 minutes into the match, Long Xuyên's Nguyễn Tu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Binh narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Nguyễn Tu came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Long Xuyên fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Tu couldn't finish the play. Cam Ranh's Nguyễn Tuan was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 34th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Nguyễn Thien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Nguyễn Phong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 40 minutes into the match, Long Xuyên's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Tuan came free, but Nguyễn Phong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nguyễn Thuy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Binh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
Long Xuyên's Nguyễn Phong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Nam in the 54th minute of play. If Nguyễn Tuan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nguyễn Binh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nguyễn Tu, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. When Nguyễn Thuy came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Long Xuyên fans jumped to their feet. After a rather tough play, Long Xuyên's Lê Thi got a free kick in the 68th minute. Nguyễn Minh was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 69th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Nguyễn Phong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Thien in the 71st minute of play. Nguyễn Thuy succeeded in the game's 76th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-1. In the 83rd minute Nguyễn Nam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Phong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Long Xuyên supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Long Xuyên would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
