The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Trần Tho hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. The Dak To fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Trần Quang Thanh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phạm Thanh, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bùi Chi during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Đào Van Quyen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dong Xam's supporters rose to their feet, but Đào Van Quyen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Hieu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 36 minutes into the game, Dak To's Phạm Thanh nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Trần Quang Thanh made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Trần Nghiêm-Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dak To's supporters rose to their feet, but Trần Nghiêm-Minh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Trần Quang Thanh breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 46th minute Huỳnh Diem shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trần Quang Thanh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Phạm Thanh made a kick off. Trần Quang Thanh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Huỳnh Diem, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Dong Xam's Trần Quang Thanh proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 56th minute of the match, managed to save Dong Xam from getting a goal against them. Trần Quang Thanh didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Đào Than went, in the 58th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. After 63 played minutes Dong Xam got a freekick which was hit by Lê Tuan. 67 minutes into the match, Dong Xam's goal looked a bit too open when Trần Nghiêm-Minh came free, but Trần Quang Thanh reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Trần Quang Thanh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Huỳnh Diem, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lê Hieu charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lê Hieu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 71st minute, Lê Hieu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Trần Nghiêm-Minh took the ball and in the 74 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Trần Quang Thanh. Trần Quang Thanh dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. Đào Van Quyen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 86 minutes, Trần Tho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dak To and the Dong Xam players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Dak To fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 86th minute. Penalty! Nguyễn Hieu had in the 88thth minute some difficulties stopping Nguyễn Tu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 89 minutes of play, Dak To's Đào Than made it 1-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Trần Quang Thanh was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in Dong Xam's zone, Huỳnh Diem stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Trần Quang Thanh came out of the goal and Huỳnh Diem tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Trần Quang Thanh made an important save on a dangerous shot by Đào Than in the 94th minute.
