The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lê Thanh Bình kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. In the 4th minute, Trần Nam got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Trần Nam received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Nguyễn Phuc tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Ba Ria-Vung Tau booed when Viet Tri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trần Thanh Bình didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 11th minute of the match Hồ Thanh Bình sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Phùng Bay skillfully saved the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Trần Nam got free with Nguyễn Phuc in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Võ Thuy got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Nguyễn Quang Thanh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the match, Viet Tri's goal looked a bit too open when Võ Thuy came free, but Phùng Bay reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nguyễn Thi Ngoc kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. Nguyễn Hoang might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Phuc. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Hoang ran back to his position shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Nguyễn Hoang put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Nguyễn Phuc. Nguyễn Phuc showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Hoang in the 31st minute of the match. Phạm Lien hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. When Trần Nam came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Viet Tri fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Trần Nam couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Ba Ria-Vung Tau booed when Viet Tri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Đặng Tong didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Teo tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Phùng Bay. Phùng Bay showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Võ Thuy in the 48th minute of the match.
In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ba Ria-Vung Tau's goalkeeper Nguyễn Phuc, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 58 minutes into the match, Viet Tri's Trần Nam sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Phuc narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 70th minute Trần Nam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Phuc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Hoang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Phùng Bay made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Võ Thuy sent off a good shot on target. 78 minutes into the game, one of Ba Ria-Vung Tau:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. After a defensive mix-up in Ba Ria-Vung Tau's zone, Lưu Hoang stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Phuc came out of the goal and Lưu Hoang tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lưu Hoang hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Võ Thuy got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nguyễn Hoang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. For all the effort they put into the match, the Ba Ria-Vung Tau players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Viet Tri.
