Nguyễn Chi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 5 minutes into the game, Mai Minh Phượng was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Kon Tum's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Viet Tri the free kick. The supporters of Viet Tri booed when Kon Tum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mai Minh Phượng didn't get a good kick on the ball. Trần Nam recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 7th minute, Mai Minh Phượng hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Trần Nam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Chi having to interfere. Nguyễn Chi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Trần Nam's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. In the 16th minute, Trần Nam made a precise shot to the right of Nguyễn Chi. Kon Tum's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Nguyễn Teo hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 36 minutes into the match, Trần Nam notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Kon Tum's Nguyễn Chi. Nguyễn Chi was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 40th match minute, Viet Tri was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Van Tai Em to maneuver through the defense. Lê Nga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Phùng Bay tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nguyễn Hoang to strike the kick off in the second half. Nguyễn Chi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Hoang, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Kon Tum's zone, Trần Thanh Bình stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Chi came out of the goal and Trần Thanh Bình tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Nguyễn Hoang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 74th minute, Nguyễn Hoang reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Nguyễn Chi. The goal made the score 1-4. Viet Tri's Phùng Bay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lê Nga in the 80th minute of play. Huỳnh Dinh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phùng Bay having to interfere. In the 84th minute Trần Nguyet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phùng Bay saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Kon Tum's Nguyễn Chi got control of the ball when Trần Nam tried to sneak it across the goal line. Trần Nam might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Chi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Trần Nam ran back to his position shaking his head. Trần Nam came free with the goalkeeper in the 93rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Nguyễn Chi could save by the left post. Lưu Hoang kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. Lê Nga struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Phùng Bay didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kon Tum. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Viet Tri walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
