The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Tu got free with Phạm Tong in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nguyễn Huynh Duc didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nguyễn Mai went, in the 36th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Nguyễn Mai managed to get in a good position for a shot. Can Tho's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Mai was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Huynh Duc breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 41 played minutes Binh Duong got a freekick which was hit by Đào Hoai. Trần Chung's late challenge caught a Can Tho's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Chung helped the player get up and apologised. After 43 played minutes, Can Tho's Trần Huynh Duc shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nguyễn Huynh Duc came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Can Tho reached it. Nguyễn Tu might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Phạm Tong. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Tu ran back to his position shaking his head. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The supporters of Can Tho booed when Binh Duong was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Hong didn't get a good kick on the ball. Can Tho were awarded a corner in the 95th minute after Binh Duong's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Trần Huynh Duc took the corner. Nguyễn Viet did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-4 to the left of a surprised Nguyễn Huynh Duc 95 minutes into the match. The Binh Duong supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Can Tho's performance. The match ended with a win for Can Tho.
