An unexpectedly hard shot by Lê Duy in the 30th minute of play forced Việt Nam's goalkeeper Nguyễn Minh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Trần Minh-ha hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Nguyễn Minh's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Minh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 34th minute of play. In the 36th minute Ronaldo were awarded a corner. Nguyễn Bay went to the cornerflag to take it. After some careless play in the Việt Nam defense, Lê Duy kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nguyễn Minh. The Việt Nam fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nguyễn Minh should have stopped the shot. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Lê Duy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Việt Nam's Nguyễn Minh proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save Việt Nam from getting a goal against them. Việt Nam's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Nguyễn Hoai in the 62nd minute. After a rather tough play, Ronaldo's Lê Thi got a free kick in the 66th minute. The audience was convinced that Trần Minh-ha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phạm Hieu Ngan was relentless in the 69th minute of the game. Nguyễn Minh blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nguyễn Minh having to make a save. A very good chance. 91 minutes into the match, Việt Nam's goal looked a bit too open when Lê Duy came free, but Nguyễn Minh reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Ronaldo players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Việt Nam from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
