Phạm Duy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Minh-ha, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Trần Liem in the 17th minute of play forced Việt Nam's goalkeeper Nguyễn Minh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nguyễn Minh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Liem in the 21st minute of play. In the 27thth minute of the game Trần Liem who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Việt Nam's Nguyễn Minh was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Gia Nghia booed when Việt Nam was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Thanh didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Gia Nghia's Nguyễn Cong Vinh got a free kick in the 43rd minute. 45 minutes into the match, Gia Nghia's goal looked a bit too open when Trần Minh-ha came free, but Phạm Duy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Trần Minh-ha made the kick off in the second half. In the 59th minute, Lê Thuy got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Trần Minh-ha struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Phạm Duy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Việt Nam. Việt Nam's Nguyễn Minh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trần Liem in the 62nd minute of play. After having played for 66 minutes, Đinh Van Tai Em managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gia Nghia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Đinh Van Tai Em was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Trần Liem had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th minute Trần Minh-ha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phạm Duy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Đinh Van Tai Em might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Minh. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Đinh Van Tai Em ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 77th minute, Trần Thi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 86th minute, Lê Thuy got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Phạm Duy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Minh-ha, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Trần Minh-ha got free with Phạm Duy in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Phạm Duy came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by Việt Nam's Lê Thuy. But to his dismay, Lê Thuy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Việt Nam had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
