In the 6th minute of the match, Ngô Liem tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Hoàng Khoi saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Nguyễn Tran succeeded in the game's 7th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. In the 11thth minute of the game Nguyễn Hoa who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hanoi's Nguyễn Tan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Trần Hoang received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Hoàng Khoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hanoi's Nguyễn Tan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Hoa in the 17th minute of play. Nguyễn Tan didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nguyễn Tran went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Yen Bai's Hoàng Khoi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Yen Bai from getting a goal against them. Trần Hoang received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Hoàng Khoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Yen Bai getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Lưu Tấn Dũng hit a great ball. Trần Hoang's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hoàng Khoi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. In the 43rd minute, Ngô Liem reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Hoàng Khoi. The goal made the score 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nguyễn Hoa to make the kick off. Hoàng Khoi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ngô Liem, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hoàng Khoi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Trần Hoang's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. Đặng Hoa's late challenge caught a Hanoi's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Đặng Hoa helped the player get up and apologised. In the 59th minute, Đặng Hoa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nguyễn Tran scored 1-3 in the 62nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nguyễn Tan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Yen Bai booed when Hanoi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lê Thi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Tan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Hoa in the 68th minute of the match. 71 minutes into the match, Yen Bai's Nguyễn Hoa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Tan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 73 minutes into the match, Trần Hoang had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hoàng Khoi. Yen Bai's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Trần Hoang was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. Trần Hoang fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hoàng Khoi having to interfere. After having played for 79 minutes, Trần Hoang managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hanoi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Trần Hoang was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nguyễn Hoa in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nguyễn Tan saved Hanoi from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Hanoi's Lê Thi got a free kick in the 86th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Tran got free with Nguyễn Tan in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nguyễn Hoa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Tan having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ngô Liem in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hoàng Khoi saved Yen Bai from getting behind. The Yen Bai supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Yen Bai would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
