Đoàn Hanh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hoàng Khoi having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Đoàn Hanh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phan Thiet's supporters rose to their feet, but Đoàn Hanh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hoàng Khoi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 19 minutes into the match, Phan Thiet's Trần Huynh Duc sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hoàng Khoi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 21 minutes into the match, Phan Thiet's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Hoa came free, but Lê Phong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Yen Bai's defense didn't have a chance, in the 52nd minute, when Trần Huynh Duc scored to the left of an out of position Hoàng Khoi, making the score, 0-1. With an all-out effort, Phan Thiet's Hoàng Khoi threw himself towards the right post 56 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Trần Huynh Duc, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
