The referee ignored Manchester United's protests and gave Hoàng Duc a yellow card for diving instead. After 2 played minutes Manchester United got a freekick which was hit by Hoàng Duc. Trần Duong stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Phạm Thi's shot from short distance in the 3rd minute. Lương Hong stood somewhat misplaced when Nguyễn Thuyet came free in front of goal and shot 1-0 to the left of him in the 11 minute. In the 15th minute Nguyễn Liem shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trần Duong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Quang Ninh's Lương Hong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Thuyet in the 19th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Nguyễn Thuyet's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lương Hong was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. Hoàng Duc hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. 25 minutes into the match, Manchester United's goal looked a bit too open when Phạm Thi came free, but Trần Duong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lương Hong was out of position in the 40 minute of play, and Nguyễn Thuyet capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nguyễn Thuyet really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Đặng Duc hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. In the 47th minute, Nguyễn Thuyet got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nguyễn Thuyet made a kick off. Quang Ninh's Lương Hong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trần Quang Thanh in the 51st minute of play. 57 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Liem recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Trần Duong. Nguyễn Liem showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. Trần Quang Thanh blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lương Hong having to make a save. If Nguyễn Liem had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lê Thai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Duong having to interfere. Nguyễn Liem might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Trần Duong. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Liem ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 73rd minute Nguyễn Thuyet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lương Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Phạm Thi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Duong having to interfere. If Trần Quang Thanh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Quang Thanh struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Lương Hong didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester United. Manchester United's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
