Nguyễn Tuan's late challenge caught a Việt Nam's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Tuan helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Dien Bien Phu getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Nguyễn Tuan hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice moves Nguyễn Minh could shoot a difficult shot in the 23rd minute, which Trần Nghiêm-Minh however easily saved by the left post. Việt Nam's Trần Hanh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trương Nam in the 25th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Trương Nam's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Trần Hanh was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. Trương Nam spun around in front of the goal 29 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Việt Nam's goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The wind increased when Võ Nguyet made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th play minute Phạm Hoai came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Trần Hanh. 1-1. Trần Hanh was left in no man's land by his defense there! Trần Nghiêm-Minh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Võ Nguyet in the 83rd minute of play. Phạm Hoai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Hanh having to interfere. Trần Hanh made an important save on a dangerous shot by Phạm Hoai in the 88th minute. After a rather tough play, Dien Bien Phu's Vũ Than got a free kick in the 89th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Minh in the 90th minute of play forced Dien Bien Phu's goalkeeper Trần Nghiêm-Minh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 96th minute, Nguyễn Minh got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the final whistle sounded Dien Bien Phu left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Việt Nam.
