Vinh Long's Phạm Chung proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save Vinh Long from getting a goal against them. Nguyễn Anh Hung charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nguyễn Anh Hung the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 4 played minutes Phan Thiet got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Anh Hung. Huỳnh Phuc might have been able to make a better finish in the 7th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Hoang. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Huỳnh Phuc ran back to his position shaking his head. Nguyễn Huỳnh's late challenge caught a Vinh Long's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Huỳnh helped the player get up and apologised. In the 14th minute, Nguyễn Huỳnh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Vinh Long's Phạm Chung got control of the ball when Nguyễn Tong tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Vinh Long's Hoàng Thi Ngoc got a free kick in the 20th minute. In the 21st match minute, Vinh Long was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mai Bien to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Vinh Long's Mai Bien got a free kick in the 24th minute. 25 minutes into the match, Hoàng Duy sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Phạm Chung threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Hoàng Duy this time. Nguyễn Hoang took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Huỳnh Phuc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vũ Chi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hoang having to interfere. In the 29th minute, Huỳnh Phuc made a precise shot to the right of Nguyễn Hoang. Phan Thiet's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. In the 31st minute, Lê Nghiêm-Minh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 41 minutes, Trần Hoai mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vinh Long and the Phan Thiet players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 41st match minute, Vinh Long was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Trần Hoai to maneuver through the defense. Huỳnh Phuc took the ball and in the 44 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nguyễn Hoang. Nguyễn Hoang dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Huỳnh Phuc to make the kick off. Nguyễn Huỳnh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Phạm Chung tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Nguyễn Huỳnh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 67th minute, Nguyễn Huỳnh left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Phan Thiet fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. If Nguyễn Tong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vũ Chi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hoang having to interfere. Vũ Chi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Vũ Chi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Phan Thiet's defense didn't have a chance, in the 77th minute, when Huỳnh Phuc scored to the left of an out of position Nguyễn Hoang, making the score, 1-3. In the 82nd minute Huỳnh Phuc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Hoang saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nguyễn Huỳnh in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Phạm Chung prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Phạm Chung showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Huỳnh in the 90th minute of the match. In the 92ndth minute of the game Nguyễn Huỳnh who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vinh Long's Phạm Chung was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Vũ Chi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With his leg Nguyễn Hoang managed to avoid a goal in the 96thth minute, when Vinh Long's Vũ Chi fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The Vinh Long supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Vinh Long would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
