The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nguyễn Nga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Minh in the 4th minute of play. 4 minutes into the game, Phuoc Tich's Nguyễn Minh nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nguyễn Nga made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. 7 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Hanh was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hoang Anh Gia Lai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Phuoc Tich the free kick. Nguyễn Hanh hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Nguyễn Nga was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Nguyễn Minh showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 9 minute of play. After having played for 12 minutes, Nguyễn Hong Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hoang Anh Gia Lai's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Hong Minh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nguyễn Thi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Nguyễn Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Phuoc Tich's Phùng Hung played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Hong Minh in the 20th minute of play. Hoang Anh Gia Lai's Nguyễn Nga played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Minh in the 33rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Minh in the 34th minute of play forced Hoang Anh Gia Lai's goalkeeper Nguyễn Nga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Phuoc Tich's Phùng Hung played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phạm Tấn Dũng in the 37th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.
The wind increased when Nguyễn Minh made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Trần Hieu Ngan during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 55 minutes into the game, one of Phuoc Tich:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Nguyễn Nga showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Thi in the 59th minute of the match. Phạm Tấn Dũng recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With his leg Phùng Hung managed to avoid a goal in the 71stth minute, when Hoang Anh Gia Lai's Nguyễn Hong Minh fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When Phan Hung fell near the penalty area in the 72nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Phuoc Tich's protests and gave Phan Hung a yellow card for diving instead. Nguyễn Minh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Nguyễn Nga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Phạm Tấn Dũng recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nguyễn Hong Minh in the 81stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Phùng Hung, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Nguyễn Thi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Thi might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nguyễn Nga. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Thi ran back to his position shaking his head. Trần Thuyet kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. Nguyễn Thi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Nguyễn Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phuoc Tich's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Minh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Nga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Phuoc Tich had won after a very even match.
