In the 25th minute, Lao Cai's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Trần Duc fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Citizen's Nguyễn Dong got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lê Hanh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hoàng Viet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nguyễn Pham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Lê Hanh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Pham sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Nguyễn Dong kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Hồ Xuan. That made the score 3-0 in the 45 minute of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nguyễn Dong to strike the kick off in the second half. After 50 minutes, Nguyễn Hoang mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lao Cai and the Citizen players grew even worse after the yellow card. Trần Duc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hồ Xuan having to interfere. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lao Cai's goalkeeper Hồ Xuan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Trần Duc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Hồ Xuan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Duc, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Nguyễn Pham kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Nguyễn Dong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute.
