Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Cao Lanh's Nguyễn Hong started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Trần Tran fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 2nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Liễu Quang having to interfere. Trần Tấn Dũng could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 6th minute of the match, but Liễu Quang made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Son La's zone, Nguyễn Hong stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Đào Ho came out of the goal and Nguyễn Hong tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Son La getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Nguyễn Khoi hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Son La's zone, Nguyễn Tuyet stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Đào Ho came out of the goal and Nguyễn Tuyet tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 14 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Cao Lanh! When the match had been going on for 16 minutes, Son La's Liễu Minh Phượng got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Liễu Quang. If Trần Tấn Dũng had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cao Lanh's Nguyễn Hoang got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The wind increased when Trần Tran made the kick off in the second half. If Nguyễn Hong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 55 minutes, Trần Tran made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Cao Lanh's Liễu Quang tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 63rdth minute of the game Nguyễn Hong who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Son La's Đào Ho was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Trần Phuong charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Trần Phuong the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 65 played minutes Son La got a freekick which was hit by Trần Phuong. In the 66th minute of the match Đào Huynh Duc shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Đào Ho showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 69 played minutes Cao Lanh got a freekick which was hit by Phùng Thanh Bình. If Nguyễn Tuyet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nguyễn Hong blasted a shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Đào Ho having to make a save. In the 83rd minute, Nguyễn Ritchell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. It was beautiful to see Cao Lanh's Đào Huynh Duc in action when he in the 84th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Liễu Quang showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Tấn Dũng, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. If Nguyễn Tuyet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Trần Tran struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Liễu Quang didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Son La. When Trần Tran came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the Son La fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Trần Tran couldn't finish the play.
