Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Đặng Huynh Duc got the match started through his kick off. Đặng Huynh Duc's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Đào Ho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 3rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Trần Thi managed to get in a good position for a shot. PHI HUNG's supporters rose to their feet, but Trần Thi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Đào Ho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. PHI HUNG's Võ Lan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trần Tran in the 10th minute of play. After having played for 12 minutes, Trần Tran managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Son La's supporters crossed their fingers, but Trần Tran was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 13th minute, Liễu Lien hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 19 minutes into the match, PHI HUNG's goal looked a bit too open when Trần Tran came free, but Võ Lan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Trần Tấn Dũng had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Tấn Dũng fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Võ Lan having to interfere. In the 27th match minute, Son La was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Khoi to maneuver through the defense. When Trần Tran came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Son La fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Trần Tran couldn't finish the play. Võ Lan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Tran, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Trần Tran in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Võ Lan saved PHI HUNG from getting behind. Võ Lan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Tấn Dũng in the 46th minute of play.

The wind increased when Trần Tran made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of PHI HUNG booed when Son La was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 50 match minutes in a wonderful position. Liễu Minh Phượng didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 51st minute the ball was on its way in behind Son La's goalkeeper Đào Ho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Trần Thi fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PHI HUNG's protests and gave Trần Thi a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Son La booed when PHI HUNG was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trần Thi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Trần Thi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, PHI HUNG's Võ Lan got control of the ball when Trần Tấn Dũng tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Trần Thi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When PHI HUNG's Đặng Huynh Duc in the 89th minute got a chance for a shot 89th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Son La's goalie prevented a goal. In the 95th minute Trần Tran shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Võ Lan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
