In a very dangerous position, a player in The Son fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! After the first half Long Tan were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

58 minutes into the match, The Son's goal looked a bit too open when Phan Dung came free, but Trịnh Cuc reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 72 minutes, Phạm Ritchell managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The Son's supporters crossed their fingers, but Phạm Ritchell was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Phan Thi Ngoc showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lê Dinh in the 75th minute of the match. In the 77th minute, Long Tan's Phan Dung dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-4. Nguyễn Lam might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Trịnh Cuc. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Lam ran back to his position shaking his head. If Phạm Ritchell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Long Tan had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
