Lê Hieu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bùi Lien, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. Liễu Lien fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hoa having to interfere. The supporters of Yen Bai booed when Ho Chi Minh City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Phùng Hoai didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Lê Duc managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ho Chi Minh City's supporters rose to their feet, but Lê Duc was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lê Hieu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Đặng Lam fell near the penalty area in the 71st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Yen Bai's protests and gave Đặng Lam a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Yen Bai getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Đặng Lam hit a great ball. If Bùi Lien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bùi Lien fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lê Hieu having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Trần Tuan Hoang in the 89th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nguyễn Hoa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nguyễn Phuc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bùi Lien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Lê Hieu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Yen Bai players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
