In the 16th match minute, RPT AK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Phan Huỳnh to maneuver through the defense. 18 minutes into the match, RPT AK's goal looked a bit too open when Lê Nam came free, but Phạm Diem reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 20 minutes into the match, Lê Nam had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Phạm Diem. RPT AK's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lê Nam was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After 27 played minutes Son La got a freekick which was hit by Võ Tấn Dũng. In the 30th minute Hoàng Nhật Minh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phạm Diem saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 32nd minute, Trần Nhật Minh ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Phạm Diem was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Phạm Diem showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Võ Tấn Dũng, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 40 minutes into the game, when Mai Van Quyen put in a rough tackle. In a very dangerous position, a player in RPT AK fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 39th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Son La a penalty, 41 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Phan Ritchell, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of RPT AK's Phạm Diem. 0-4. A hard shot by Lê Ho from long distance, 47 minutes into the match, got La Thanh's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The RPT AK players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Son La were winning 0-4.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Trần Minh Phượng to strike the kick off in the second half. Son La's Võ Tấn Dũng suffered a concussion in the 56th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. After 56 minutes, Phan Huỳnh mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the RPT AK and the Son La players grew even worse after the yellow card. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hoàng Nhật Minh couldn't finish the play. In the 75th minute the ball was on its way in behind Son La's goalkeeper La Thanh, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Hoàng Nhật Minh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phạm Diem having to interfere. Hoàng Nhật Minh's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phạm Diem read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play.
