When Chung Nguyet fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ho Chi Minh City's protests and gave Chung Nguyet a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Ho Chi Minh City getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Chung Nguyet hit a great ball. Bùi Diem received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Lê Minh-ha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Lý Khoi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phan Hong was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. Phan Hong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lý Khoi in the 19th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Ba Ria-Vung Tau's goal looked a bit too open when Lý Khoi came free, but Phan Hong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 23 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Duc was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ho Chi Minh City the free kick. Phan Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Đoàn Quang Thanh, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nguyễn Nam hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. It was beautiful to see Ho Chi Minh City's Phan Bay in action when he in the 28th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! In the 34th minute of the match Nguyễn Duc sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lê Minh-ha skillfully saved the ball. After some careless play in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau defense, Phạm Tuyet kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Phan Hong. The Ba Ria-Vung Tau fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Phan Hong should have stopped the shot. In the 41stth minute of the game Bùi Diem who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ho Chi Minh City's Lê Minh-ha was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With an all-out effort, Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Lê Minh-ha threw himself towards the right post 44 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Bùi Diem, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Chung Nguyet kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 49th minute, Bùi Diem got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bùi Diem to strike the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the game, Phạm Tuyet was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ho Chi Minh City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ba Ria-Vung Tau the free kick. In the 55th match minute, Ho Chi Minh City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Phạm Tuyet to maneuver through the defense. Trần Hong was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 55th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Nguyễn Chi hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 65th play minute Đoàn Quang Thanh came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Phan Hong. 1-2. Trần Hung fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lê Minh-ha having to interfere. Bùi Diem scored 2-2 in the 70th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lê Minh-ha, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 75th minute Chung Nguyet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Phan Hong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chung Nguyet, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Lê Minh-ha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lương Mai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Phan Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Đoàn Quang Thanh in the 80th minute. After having played for 83 minutes, Đoàn Quang Thanh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ho Chi Minh City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Đoàn Quang Thanh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 87 minutes of play Ho Chi Minh City's Phạm Tuyet was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Ba Ria-Vung Tau booed when Ho Chi Minh City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Phạm Tuyet didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bùi Diem in the 89th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lê Minh-ha prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Lương Mai got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ba Ria-Vung Tau's goalkeeper Phan Hong, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
