Dương Lan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nguyễn Cuc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Phan Hong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Phan Hong didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nguyễn Cuc went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Phan Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Cuc in the 40th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

In the 53rd minute Lê Anh Hung shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Trần Bay's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phan Hong read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play. When Nguyễn Hoai fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PhuTho's protests and gave Nguyễn Hoai a yellow card for diving instead. Phan Hong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lê Anh Hung in the 90th minute of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. PhuTho had played much better football throughout.
