Nguyễn Thi was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 26th match minute, Lao Cai was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Tu to maneuver through the defense. Nghiêm Binh came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Lao Cai's Lý Minh-ha. But to his dismay, Lý Minh-ha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Nghiêm Binh didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 43rd minute, which inside left pole to 3-1. Nguyễn Tu struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Nghiêm Binh didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lao Cai. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mai Phong was the one to do the kick off. When Mai Phong came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Lao Cai fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mai Phong couldn't finish the play. Nghiêm Binh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lý Minh-ha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lý Minh-ha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Tu hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Mai Phong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phan Bien got free with Nguyễn Thi in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lý Minh-ha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 85th minute, Lý Minh-ha left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lao Cai fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. After having played for 89 minutes, Mai Phong managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lao Cai's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mai Phong was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nghiêm Binh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mai Phong in the 95th minute of play. In the 97th minute, Phan Bien got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
